Your wedding cake will be captured in many of your wedding photos which
will be looked at for many years to come, it is therefore important to spend time to choose your special cake even if this means more than one appointment to get it right.
When choosing your wedding cake consider the location or time of year - too
hot and a chocolate cake may melt.
Take photos or magazine clippings of designs that you like when ordering
your
cake.
Swatches of material are important for colour matching.
When deciding on the size of cake required consider if you will be
sending/keeping pieces for people unable to attend your wedding.
The top tier of the wedding cake (fruit cake) was traditionally kept for the
couples first Childs christening. However some couples now keep the top tier for their first anniversary.
If the top tier is to be kept for a future event let you cake decorator know
so that the top tier is not calculated in the number of portions required.

Portions are normally cut in 1"x1" pieces for fruit cake and 2"x1" for
sponges.
Some couples use the wedding cake as an alternative to a sweet. In this
instance portions may be required to be bigger. Let your cake decorator know so that the calculations can be altered.
Some Brides like
fresh flowers on their cakes however this is NOT RECOMMENDED. If the flowers themselves are not poisonous ( in some cases deadly) then the flowers will have been treated with insecticides and
/or preservatives therefore should not touch the cake.
To carry your boxed cake place your hand underneath the box. Do not hold by
the sides of the box as this may damage your cake.
The best way to transport your cake is flat in the boot of your car on a
towel or similar. Do not try to wedge the cake into a space. The weight of the cake should prevent the cake from moving in normal driving conditions.
